Possibility of credit for the purchase of alcohol gel and protective masks

According to guidance recently published by the Federal Revenue Service, alcohol gel and protective masks against Covid-19 generate PIS and COFINS credits when supplied to employees in the industrial production area.

The understanding, expressed in Cosit Consultation Solution No. 164, is that these items can be considered as inputs as long as the legislation on the pandemic is applicable.

Initially, this benefit does not apply to the supply of hand sanitizer and protective masks to employees assigned to administrative activities; however, the issue is subject to legal dispute.

Considering that the costs of purchasing these items have been high, this is good news for companies interested in recovering 9.25% of their costs.

The law firm Marcos Martins Advogados makes its tax team available to answer any questions on this issue.
