On June 4, the National Mining Agency opened a public consultation to receive contributions on the public notice for the availability of 500 areas for the purpose of researching minerals used preferably in infrastructure and civil construction.
According to the minister, “the idea is to discuss the rules with society and the mining sector in order to improve the points of the notice, which will be a pilot for others to come.”
The agency’s own website indicates that there are tens of thousands of areas in the ANM’s portfolio of mining projects that were previously granted but returned to the ANM for various reasons, including abandonment of the project, withdrawal and default on obligations. The need is for these areas to be made available again for research and mining, which could put an end to the damming up of investment in the sector that has been going on since 2016.
