On February 24, 2021, the Federal Revenue Service published the rules and deadlines for filing income tax returns for the year 2021, calendar year 2020.

Taxpayers must file their returns between March 1 and April 30, using the Return Generator Program (PGD) or the “My Income Tax” application, but there are exceptions.

The Federal Revenue Service has forbidden certain situations in which a tax return can be filed using the application, so taxpayers should be aware of which form allows them to file their tax return.

Tax returns must be filed by those who:

  • received taxable income in excess of R$ 28,559.70 (twenty-eight thousand, five hundred and fifty-nine reais and seventy cents);
  • received exempt, non-taxable income or income taxed exclusively at source, the sum of which exceeded R$ 40,000.00 (forty thousand reais);
  • obtained capital gains on the sale of goods or rights, or carried out transactions on the stock exchange;

It is important to make it clear that each tax return deserves special attention, and taxpayers should pay attention to the peculiarities of their case.
